Hello, my name is Zar and I am a male Borzoi (or Russian Wolfhound).

I came to live in my forever home when I was 12 weeks old. I turned two years old in May 2006. I now stand close to six foot tall if you rest my front paws on your shoulder. Mom calls me her gentle giant.

I love to run in the field at the stable and laugh to myself when the other dogs are struggling to catch up. Mom says I'm graceful when I run and she loves to watch me. I'm as tall as Mom now too!

I go to "doggie daycare" sometimes and my best friend is Riley a golden retriever. At home I hang out on the couch.

My favorite pastime is chasing Maia, but I still have not figured out why the other dogs are barking "get her, get her"...she seems to like it, and I do too.

***February 2006 ~ Update! Mom says there will be a new boy coming to live with us soon and I'm to be good and welcome him to his new home. I'll just have to see what this guy looks like before I decide if I'll let him share my couch.

***July 2006 ~ Update! It moved in with us. What was mom thinking! It's a terrorist. I've had to step in a few times and let it know the rules of the house. They've called it Merlin, but I have a few other names I would have called it. However they don't ask me my opinion. As for the couch...it's all mine!!!

***February 2008 ~ Update. Merlin and I are best buds now. He's grown up and is fun to play with, but I wasn't too impressed with him when he first arrived. The couch is still mine though.

***July 7, 2008 ~ Update. Mom found me on the floor this morning. I was bleeding from my nose and mouth and I just didn't feel like getting up when she called me. I think I gave her a scare. I bled for two days, and went to the vet for tests. They finally determined I had punctured my upper pallet with my lower tooth. I wasn't feeling very well, and you know what I hated the most - the bag of frozen peas that mom kept putting on my nose to slow down the bleeding!

***July 16, 2008 ~ Update. I had an operation this morning. My lower right canine has been shortened and capped so that I won't hurt myself. Mom says I still look handsome, but I'm afraid to look in the mirror. What if I look like a doofus...everyone will laugh at me!

***April, 2008 ~ Update:  Look mom painted a picture of me!!!  Don't I look handsome...

***July, 2009 ~ Update:  We have a new sister named Arwen.  At least I have the couch still.  She's only small, so she fits on one corner without taking up my space.  We go for walks together too.  I accidentally sat on her yesterday (well not all of her, just part).  She cried ... what a baby!  Mom says I have to be more careful, so now I check before I flop down.
