Scratch Art
Scratchboard, sometimes also known as scraperboard, is a black and white medium. You can apply color, but it is very beautiful left without as well.
The board is coated with a very thin coating of fine white clay and then a layer of India ink coats this clay surface.
A drawing done on scratchboard is made by using a sharp-pointed instrument to make white lines on the inked surface by "scratching" or scraping parts of the inked surface off.
There are two types of scratchboards. Black ones and white. Since the entire surface of black scratchboard is coated with ink, all pieces end up with a black background. A white board has no black ink coating, therefore certain areas of the board must be inked with color (or spray painted). When dry, scratching can be done.
